Doris Mae Reese, in her eighty-eight years of life, quickly learned to live behind silent lips, as she was shaped and damaged by a confidently-controlling, differently-damaged mother named Mabel.Doris would later transform her first public humiliation - a ghost-written penitential piece published in the Times Picayune - into a point of pride and asset on her resume. She would turn a bottle of olive oil and woolen snood into a position of prominence in her High School Band, into a leading role, into an American Legion Award, and then that award into a career as a Woman’s News Writer.
